In this chapter, you learned the fundamentals of LTS and LINQ by taking a Bottom Up approach to ORM. LINQ is a set of standard query operators that can be valuable in developing a robust, well-architected solution. LINQ provides a framework for querying any data source, not just relational databases. LTS is one of the products under the LINQ umbrella. LTS uses DBML metadata to handle the mapping of objects to relational databases. LTS ships with two tools, the designer and SqlMetal, that can be used to generate DBML and ORM code. After creating the entities and data context, it is a simple task to query, insert, update, and delete items in your database. LTS tracks all changes that you make to your entities, thus allowing for a disconnected ORM experience. SQL is dynamically generated and executed against SQL Server with the appropriate statement (for example, INSERT, SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE). In 4, you will take a much deeper dive into LTS. You will learn about advanced querying, debugging, transactions, functions, stored procedures, and more. Ogre source distribution comes in two flavors: tarball, which refers to a packed and compressed version of the source tree for a particular version, and CVS, which refers to the source- and revision-control system used by the project.
